Lesson 6: The Oceans
Objectives:
- The students will continue to increase their understanding of the oceans.
- Students will be able to identify the oceans on a map and spell their names.
By looking at a map or globe, one can see that all the oceans are interconnected, and are divided by the continents. The northern parts of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans which go around the North Pole, form the Arctic Ocean. The southern parts of the Atlantic, Pacific and the Indian Oceans extend around the Antarctic Continent and form the Antarctic Ocean. These five great oceans cover approximately 70% of the surface of the earth.

- Inflatable globe
- Graph paper
- Colored pencils
- Plain piece of paper

-Make a mark on your tally sheet after each toss.
-Repeat steps 3 through 6 one hundred times.
-Create a bar graph showing the number of times your finger touched an ocean of a continent.
-Use two colors for your graph.
-Repeat the activity with a group of people and see if they have the same results.
-Study the oceans by making a tally sheet that lists the worlds oceans and only make a tally mark when your fingers touches an ocean.
